HERITAGE DAY 2013
COMMUNITY SCARECROW CONTEST
WHAT: Create a scarecrow out of whatever materials, in whatever fashion desired, and display it at a business in the Hartland area. Register your site’s location no later than September 11 by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. People’s Choice Awards (certificates) for most interesting, most historic, and most colorful (3) will be given on Heritage Day, Saturday, September 21 announced around noon as part of the day’s activities.
WHO: All Chamber of Commerce members, community nonprofits, school groups, churches, retail and other businesses are invited to create a scarecrow for display at their business. If you are a community nonprofit without a location (e.g., Boy Scouts), ask a retail business to permit the group to create and display a scarecrow.
WHEN: Scarecrows are to be prepared by September 13 and displayed for the community at your site from September 13 through September 22. People’s Choice ballots can be downloaded from the Cromaine District Library (www.cromaine.org) and the Hartland Chamber web sites (www.hartlandchamber.org) beginning September 13th or requested via email to email@example.com. Votes must be turned in by noon on Friday, Sept. 20th and can be turned in at the Cromaine District Library or Hartland Chamber of Commerce office (3508 Avon), or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
WHERE: We’ll see Hartland Area Scarecrows throughout the area—in front of big box stores, medical/dental offices, schools, and churches. Your participating group will certainly want to be sure that ALL members vote for your scarecrow—and get others to vote, too! If you have a booth at Heritage Day—bring your scarecrow and have it there, too!
WHY: Primary purposes of the Hartland Area Scarecrow Contest is to increase community awareness of the annual Heritage Day event, introduce the community to new and overlooked businesses in the area, showcase our many talented and creative builders, and discover a craft—creating scarecrows—that is an important part of our agriculture heritage.
HAVE FUN DRESSING, STUFFING, AND POSITIONING YOUR SCARECROW TO REFLECT YOUR INTERESTS—
AND ATTRACT NEW CUSTOMERS AND MEMBERS TO YOUR GROUP.
