Historic Hartland Music Hall
The Historic Hartland Music Hall has served as a center for musical performance and education since its beginnings in the 1930s, enriching the lives of Hartland residents and remaining a treasured space for generations. Constructed in 1858, the building originally served as the First Congregational Church of Hartland. After the church disbanded, J. Robert Crouse, Sr., working with the Hartland Area Project to bring fine art to the community, purchased and renovated the building into a Music Hall. Renovations included the installation of a stage and porch, as well as the excavation of a foundation for rehearsal rooms and storage. A beautiful Kilgen pipe organ—now regarded as the jewel of the Hall—was also installed. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the Music Hall was widely used by local schools and community members and gained national recognition as a center for musical excellence. Thanks largely to long-term caretaker Don Thompson, that legacy continues today, making the Hall an indispensable part of Hartland’s vibrant cultural life.
