Pre-Orders are OPEN NOW for the Annual Native Plant Sale!

This winter season may feel brutal, but we're already dreaming up our summer gardens! This slow, snowy season is the best time of year to make garden plans-- and whether you're looking to grow a bumper crop of tomatoes or you prefer working with flowers, adding native plants to your landscape may be just what your garden needs this year to thrive. The Hartland Home and Garden Club's Native Plant Sale offers a huge variety of native seedlings, perfect for border projects, filling in empty spaces in your landscape, or for brand new garden spaces!

Join the Hartland Home and Garden Club on Saturday, June 13 in the Cromaine Library parking lot from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm to purchase locally grown, insecticide-free native plants, grown by East Michigan Native Plants! Individual plants can be purchased in three-inch containers to bring your garden design ideas to life; or, purchase a garden design kit, featuring thirty two pre-selected plants with a design plan included! Create your very own pollinator garden, rain garden, butterfly garden, or native grass garden: the opportunities are endless! The pre-order form features details on each of the native seedlings that will be available in June, including the pricing for each plant, the scientific species name, bloom season, and requirements for sun and water-- so you can spend these chilly days designing the perfect garden plan! Plus, submitting a pre-order form before June 5 guarantees that you'll receive all the native plants you're looking for. So be sure to download the pre-order form, or pick one up from the Library, and order your native plants or garden kits now!

We can't wait to fill our gardens with beautiful native grasses and wildflowers like sunny goldenrods, cheerful wild petunias, and magical foxglove beardtongue. Native plants are a wonderful addition to any garden or landscape project because they are well-adapted to the many quirks of Michigan, including local herbivory, temperature, and sudden weather changes like drought or storms. This makes native plants prolific, easy to grow, and very beneficial to our landscapes-- plus, they can stabilize soil, attract pollinators, and provide gorgeous blooms while they do it!

Many of the native gems found on the Library grounds, from black-eyed Susans to native columbine, are available at the Native Plant Sale every year. If you enjoy the beautiful variety of leaf textures and blooms in the Cromaine gardens, be sure to pre-order your favorite native plants to pick up at the sale!

The Hartland Home and Garden Club are excited to bring the annual Native Plant Sale back to the Library! Garden Club members share a love of gardening and the environment, and bring this passion to the community through workshops, classes, and garden projects. Most of their initiatives take place at the Library, with presenters in the fall and spring, and throughout the growing season they maintain the beautiful Cromaine gardens. Visit the Library's online calendar to learn about upcoming events hosted by the Hartland Home and Garden Club, including Winter Seed Sowing with Angela Nelson on Wednesday, February 25 and Bees in the D: World Pollinators on Wednesday, March 4! Revenue from the Native Plant Sale benefits the Hartland Home and Garden Club, allowing them to provide engaging, educational programs and fun gardening events that inspire learning and cultivate connection among the Hartland community.

We can't wait for a sunny season of learning, gardening, and growing with you! And while we wait for spring to arrive, don't forget that pre-ordering your native seedlings will guarantee that you get all of the plants on your wish list-- plus, it helps us prepare for the Sale and supports the Garden Club! Please reach the Garden Club at gardenclub@cromaine.org with questions related to the Plant Sale. We can't wait to see you in June!
